Ashley is a partner focused on estate planning and estate administration. Ashley enjoys working with clients to design comprehensive tax efficient estate plans that accommodate each client’s specific family circumstances. She regularly advises high net worth clients requiring Primary and Secondary Wills, trusts for people with disabilities, Powers of Attorney and Family Trusts.  Her estate administration practice includes advising estate trustees on their role and responsibilities, guiding them through the administration of the deceased person’s estate and preparing probate applications.

Ashley holds the Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation with STEP Canada (the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners), an internationally recognized designation that differentiates qualified practitioners and demonstrates an advanced understanding of the trust and estates field. Ashley was recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada publication under Ones to Watch in Trusts and Estates in 2021 and 2022.

Ashley had the privilege to act as a primary caregiver to her late grandmother and to a Holocaust survivor in the community whom she befriended for many years. During this time in her life she gained critical insight into the complexities involved in caring for elderly people.

Memberships

Ashley is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners Canada (STEP) and the Estate Planning Council of Toronto. She is a former member of the Professional Advisory Committee at Baycrest Foundation and the Professional Advisory Committee of the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto.

Education

Ashley graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from York University in 2010. In 2014, Ashley graduated with a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School.

She was called to the Bar in 2015.

Acted for clients to plan and implement transactions for succession planning purposes.

Frequently retained by clients to advise and implement estate freezes including the settlement of trusts and the reorganization of family businesses including steps to enable the client and the client’s family to benefit from the capital gains exemption and to defer the “death tax” liability on the value of investment holdings.

We advise clients on all matters relating to estate planning including planning and implementing estate plans, preparing wills, trusts (including alter ego trusts and joint partner trusts) and powers of attorney for personal property and for personal care.

Frequently advises clients on estate planning issues where one or more children reside outside of Canada and where the client or spouse is a citizen of the United States of America.

Frequently advises clients with children or grandchildren with special needs.

Regularly represents clients to plan and implement multi-generational estate planning which achieves tax efficiencies and next-generation Family Law Act protection.
